1944: Born and school education in Klagenfurt, Carinthia. Matura in 1962.

1962-1968: Medical schools at the Universities of Innsbruck and Vienna.
Promotio Doctor Medicinae Universae in Innsbruck, November 1968.

1969-1973: Research Assistant at the Dept. of Pharmacology, University of Innsbruck (Director: Prof. Dr. H. Konzett).

1970-1972: Department of Physiology, University of Colorado, Medical School, Denver, USA, (Director: Prof. Dr. A.R. Martin)

1973-1980: Research Assistant in the Dept. of Neurophysiology at the Max-Planck-Institute for Psychiatry, München, Germany (Director: Prof. Dr. H.D. Lux).

1978: Habilitation in Physiology (Technical University of München). Title of the thesis: "Release of transmitter substance at the neuromuscular endplate: a criticism and elaboration of the `Quantum Hypothesis`.

1980: Professor of Sensory and Neurophysiology in the Dept. of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine of the Friedrich-Wilhelm`s University in Bonn.

Since 1989 Research on plasticity of the nervous system has been extended to the work on the TRAINABILITY OF GAIT PATTERN AT THE SPINAL CORD LEVEL and has involved the application of basic neurophysiology to the clinical situation, with successful TRAINING OF WALKING IN PATIENTS WITH SEVERE SPINAL CORD INJURIES ("LAUFBAND"-THERAPIE). This work was started in cooperation with Prof. Harms and Chief Therapist Sabine Mueller, Rehabilitation Clinic Langensteinbach (KKL).
