Keywords::Interventional Cardiology, Congenital Heart Disease, ASD, PFO, VSD, Coarctation, Valvuloplasty, Valve replacement
This Workshop is designed for physicians with a special interest in interventional treatment of congenital heart disease in adults as well as in children. Topics presented will include catheter closure of congenital shunts such as atrial and ventricular septal defects and patent ductus, balloon valvuloplasty and angioplasty/stenting of coarctation. However, we will also discuss related problems like catheter closure of patent foramen ovale for prevention of stroke due to paradoxical embolism or closure of post myocardial infarction ventricular septal defect. The latest technologies in stents, balloons and septal closure devices will be demonstrated. This year a special session about catheter based valve replacement will be added.
From the experience of the previous workshops, we expect the participation of adult and pediatric cardiologists but also of neurologists, radiologists, surgeons and specialists in internal medicine with a special interest in cardiology who are looking for an update in these new therapeutic options.
The success of the previous workshops has resulted from the combination of comprehensive lectures given by leading interventional pediatric and adult cardiologists and a large number of live case demonstrations from the Cardiovascular Center Bethanien. During the last workshop, 27 live cases were performed by physicians of the Cardiovascular Center as well as by members of the guest faculty and transmitted to the auditorium. The attendees could to see different approaches and techniques to treat patients with congenital heart disease. Oral abstracts and poster presentations will be added. The educational objectives of this workshop are to provide a comprehensive familiarity with existing catheter techniques and to present emerging treatment options within the field.
