The Laboratory for
Experimental Epileptology, housed in the Life & Brain Center,
is dedicated to unravelling mechanisms of epilepsy. Combining epilepsy models
with research in human tissue from epilepsy patients provides a unique look
into the human disorder. Using both human tissue and experimental animal models
allows novel and innovative approaches to crucial therapeutic questions such as
the mechanisms of pharmaco-resistance in epilepsy patients, or the mechanisms
of antiepileptic drug action in humans. Furthermore, innovative research
questions in the laboratory have allowed to develop candidates as potential novel
drug targets for antiepileptogenic and antiepileptic drugs. We envisage that
this integrated approach will help to pave the way to new therapies. The Life & Brain Center and GmbH provides an ideal
framework for such an undertaking.
